Green Fields

£620.00

Original vintage Swedish oil on canvas by listed artist Ake WINNBERG (1913-1974). A modernist semi-abstract interpretation of a landscape with green and brown fields. The composition is made up of blocks of color in different shades of green and brown that represent the limits of what are possibly agricultural crops in the background. In the foreground, a sloped expanse of green recalls a meadow, where trees and shrubs in a mossy color dot the landscape, contrasting against lighter hues of lime green and yellow grass.

WINNBERG was a Swedish painter and cartoonist who lived most of his life in Gothenburg municipality. He moved to Gothenburg from Umeå in his youth to train as an advertising illustrator at the Slöjdföreningen school, following which he held numerous exhibitions in Sweden and abroad. His works include oils, watercolors, and drawings of landscapes, farm interiors, and city motifs. WINNBERG’s paintings have been shown at museums including the Moderna Museet, Borås Art Museum, and Gothenburg Art Museum.

In grey wood frame and in excellent vintage condition.
